Introduction

David has kept up to date fuel consumption figures for his vehicle which are pasted in below.

It should be noted that David has a manual vehicle and is achieving a much better mileage than the automatic vehicle owned by Gary.

David does not use his air conditioner unless it is quite warm, was initially running in “2WD” mode (until he discovered this was very hard on his tyres when he then changed to “Automatic 4WD mode”), and the towed weight weighs in at around 100Kg less than Gary (where an average of around 6 kilometres per litre is being achieved). Talking with other caravaners this (Gary’s fuel consumption) is still a very good fuel consumption whereas David’s is considered to be exceptional.

Bonding with his Vehicle

Pictured at the head of this page is David washing his car. To understand the significance of this one has to know David. He has, since the trip began, struggled with as to whether or not his car would let him down. After using it in place of a boat with water coming over the bonnet he has come to like it a little. The photograph of him washing his car is like trying to get a photo of a crocodile mating, fraught with danger and only going to one with unlimited patience.
