This section is to be a new one dedicated to places that were and are extraordinary in one way or another and will be added to over the life of this site. In every case on this page a link to the page on this site in which our trip to the specified location was taken will be provided. The link will take you to the page in this site where you can then select the section you are looking for from the index at the top of the page. In some cases where we have visited a location more than once there may be more than one link, each with a year in its title to help in a decision as to which one to visit first. The back button on the browser or reselecting “Australian Wonders” on the left hand main index will return you to this page. Ayers Rock (Uluru)
Awesome in the truest sense of the word. Heading in to Ayers Rock glimpses of it from around 50 kilometres away give one a real sense that they are about to visit something truly special. We have made only one trip to Ayers Rock and the link is following. Ayers Rock - Uluru - 2009 The link will take you to the relevant page in this site where you can then select the section you are looking for from the index at the top of the page. Eighty Mile Beach
Roughly half way between Port Hedland and Broome is a cattle station that has developed a caravan park on Eighty Mile Beach. It is a 10 kilometre trip into the coast from the Highway but once there the caravan park has a fishing reputation that is excellent for anyone who wants to catch a fish. The full featured caravan park offers seclusion with security. We have visited twice now and believe it is a must do particularly if you like never ending walks on sandy beaches (eighty miles may be some form quassia of limit on distance). Eighty Mile Beach 2009 Eighty Mile Beach 2010 The Nullabor Links Golf Course
Brilliantly conceived this is a must do for anyone who is crossing the Nullabor regardless of their feelings on the game of golf. It is designed to give a break from driving but in our case caused us to travel further in any given day as we were so excited about reaching our next challenge. A challenge it is because most holes are littered with brush. Small bushes, rocks or at several holes on the way the problem encountered is crows that steal your balls. You can start at either end of the course by visiting the Tourism Information centre at Kalgoorlie or Ceduna where in either case after paying a fee to register for the entire game the first two holes are played at the local golf course. From there it is off to play one hole every 100 or so kilometres. Once having completed the entire course and with your card having been stamped at every location you visit the tourist Information office in your final town (either Ceduna or Kalgoorlie) where you will be issued with a certificate. People fly in from all over the world to play this course and we can do it on our way across Australia just for fun. P.S. If you start in Kalgoorlie at their country club like course you are deceived if you think the rest is the same! This course is the great equaliser of both good and bad golfers – Enjoy! |
